What to Look For in Kids' Rashies and Swimwear

Kids' swimwear needs to do more than just look cute (although that helps). It needs to protect, fit well, and last more than one season. Here's what to look for.

UPF Rating

Cucumber Wobble Rashie

UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is the fabric equivalent of SPF. Look for UPF 50+, which blocks 98% of UV rays. All Pekpi rashies are UPF 50+ rated.

This matters more than you think. Australian UV levels are among the highest in the world, and children's skin is significantly more sensitive than adults'. A rashie isn't just a fashion choice - it's sun protection.

Fit and Comfort

Kids' swimwear should be:

  • Snug but not tight - loose swimwear drags in the water and causes chafing
  • Easy to get on and off - especially for toilet emergencies
  • Comfortable when wet - some fabrics get heavy or clingy when wet
  • Stretchy - kids need to move freely

Fabric Quality

Cheap swimwear fades, stretches out, and pills after a few washes. Look for:

  • Chlorine-resistant fabric - essential if your child swims in pools
  • Quick-dry material - nobody wants to sit in wet swimmers
  • Colour-fast prints - the print should look the same after 50 washes as it did on day one

Sustainability

The fashion industry is one of the world's biggest polluters, and swimwear is no exception. Look for brands that use recycled materials, ethical manufacturing, and responsible packaging.

Our swimwear is made from recycled plastic bottles, manufactured in facilities that meet international labour standards, and shipped in recyclable packaging.
