Getting Out the Door with Little Ones (Without the Chaos!)

Getting Out the Door with Little Ones (Without the Chaos!)

If you’re a parent, you’ll know that leaving the house with kids can feel like packing for a two-week holiday. But with a little planning (and a few clever hacks), it doesn’t have to be such a juggle. Here are our favourite tried-and-tested tips for getting out the door with ease - tiny tornadoes in tow.

1. Pram Prep = Peace of Mind

Do yourself a favour and load the pram into the car the night before (or have it parked at the door ready to roll). It’s one less thing to wrangle in the morning rush, and you’ll thank yourself when everyone’s strapping in and you’re already one step ahead.

2. The Always-Ready Nappy Bag

Think of your nappy bag as your superhero sidekick. Keep it stocked with the non-negotiables so you’re never caught out:

  • Nappies + wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • A sun hat
  • Spare clothes (or swimmers if your crew loves a splash!)

Pekpi Hack: Use one of our Medium Wet Bags to stash a change of clothes. The double-compartment design is a game-changer - perfect for keeping siblings’ things separate or organising clean and used items with zero fuss.

Then, each morning all you need to add are the “perishables” - think snacks and drink bottles - and you’re out the door.

3. Mastering the Multi-Use

Kids already come with a lot of gear, so we love products that can pull double (or triple) duty. Think of it as packing smarter, not heavier.

Take the humble swaddle - it’s so much more than a wrap. One minute it’s a pram cover or stroller nap blanket, the next it’s a picnic rug, an emergency towel, or even a quick-change station. One lightweight piece, endless possibilities.

Other clever multi-taskers?

  • Wet Bags – not just for dirty nappies. Use them for wet swimmers, snack storage, or to separate clean and used clothes.
  • Muslin Cloths – work as burp cloths, bibs on the go, shade covers, or even makeshift comforters.
  • Insulated Drink Bottles – keep water cool, double as a snack thermos for cut fruit or yoghurt.
  • Sarongs or Large Wraps – cover-up for you, play mat for bub, or instant beach shade.
  • Silicone Snack Cups – collapse flat in your bag, then expand when needed (and they’re great for corralling small toys too).

The more jobs one item can do, the less you have to juggle. Which only means more time to enjoy the adventure.

4. Small systems make a big difference

  • Keep a small basket by the door for “last-minute musts” like drink bottles, snacks, or comfort toys — grab it and go.
  • Stick a quick checklist of the three things you always forget (sun hats, dummies, water bottles?) on the fridge.
  • Rotate a little stash of “car-only” toys or books to keep kids entertained on drives without the clutter.
  • Keep a small “car kit” handy with nappies, wipes, a spare outfit, and a couple of snacks — it’s the perfect backup for when you’ve forgotten something in the rush.

4. Keep It Simple

At the end of the day, the goal isn’t to have every “just in case” item - it’s to actually leave the house. Streamline your essentials, organise them smartly, and keep a couple of versatile pieces in the mix. You’ll find the whole process starts to feel lighter, less stressful, and maybe even… fun.

With these little hacks, getting out of the house with little ones doesn’t have to be a mission. A bit of prep, a trusty Wet Bag, and a clever capsule of go-tos - and you’re all set for adventures big and small.
