The Ultimate Beach Day Packing List for Babies and Toddlers
Beach days with little ones require military-level planning. Or at least a really good packing list. We've got you covered.
Sun Protection
- UPF50+ swimwear - a rashie or shortie swimsuit is your first line of defence
- Wide-brim hat - the bigger the better
- Baby/toddler sunglasses - yes, their eyes need protection too
- SPF50+ sunscreen - apply 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours
- Beach tent or umbrella - shade is non-negotiable for babies
Swim Essentials
- Reusable swim nappy - because disposable swim nappies are expensive and wasteful
- Spare swim nappy - accidents happen
- Wet bag (medium) - for wet swimmers and nappies
- Wet bag (travel size) - perfect for dirty bibs, snack spills or a spare outfit
- Towel or hooded towel
Food and Drink
- Water bottle - hydration is extra important in the heat
- Snacks - easy finger food like fruit, crackers, sandwiches
- Waterproof bib - sandy snack time is real
- Cooler bag - keep everything fresh
Comfort and Entertainment
- Sand toys - buckets, spades, moulds
- A change of clothes - for the drive home
- Nappies and wipes - the regular kind, for after swimming
- A light blanket or muslin wrap - for naps in the shade
- First aid kit - plasters, antiseptic, any medications
Pro Tips
Go early or late. Avoid the 10am-2pm UV peak. Early morning beach sessions are magic with little ones anyway.
Double bag it. Bring two wet bags - one for wet stuff, one for sandy/dirty clothes. Your car will thank you.
Rinse before you leave. Most beaches have showers. A quick rinse gets the sand and salt off before the drive home meltdown begins.
